Pocket money

Spending money will differ for everyone. Sorrento Lingue recommends between € 30 - € 250 per week, in addition to the costs for accommodation and food. This amount will solely depend on your eating habits and extra-curricular activities

Exchanging money

The best way to access your money is by ATM or Credit Card. When you access money by either of these means you will receive the best exchange rate possible with a minimum fee. When exchanging large amounts of money it is usually better to do it in a bank. However, you should also bring cash for the first few days (for the taxi, for purchasing small things, etc.). Avoid changing money in change offices because of high commission rates; the best exchange rates are at the bank.

Credit Cards / Euro-Cheques / Traveler's Cheques

Euro-Cheques, Traveler’s Cheques and Credit Cards (Visa and Master Card) are accepted almost everywhere. You can receive money at Automatic Teller Machines (ATM), if you have an ATM card linked to an international network (Eurocard, Cirrus, Plus, Maestro etc.). MasterCard and Visa (with PIN number) may be used to withdraw cash from an ATM machine. In Europe, ATM’s do not often accept PIN numbers with more than 4 digits.

Credit cards, ATM cards, traveler’s cheques in Euro, financial records (copy of bank statements and list of account numbers), PIN numbers. (Italy requires a 4 digit PIN number)
Cash from ATM’s only in Euro / daily amount is limited.
Make a note of both the numbers of the traveler’s checks and the telephone numbers of the issuers so that student can have them replaced easily. Students should carry only the credit cards that plan to use during the students stay. Make notes of all the emergency replacement procedures and telephone numbers. The student can e-mail themselves this information in case it is lost or stolen.
Arrange a ‘power of attorney' for the person handling student financial affairs in student’s absence (if not parent or guardian).
Find out about any income tax filing requirements for student home country before the students leave their home country
